Fifteen Hours by Mitchel Scanlon is certainly a book. That much is indisputable.
Ostensibly, this is a novel about a newly recruited Imperial Guardsman who must fight and survive in a war-torn battlefield of the 41st millennium where the average lifespan of a soldier is a mere fifteen hours.
Unfortunately, this novel is not very good. The prose is dry, the characters are paper-thin, the story is filled with plot holes, and the ending, without spoiling a 20-year-old story, is perfunctorily underwhelming. Conversely, it is not even bad in a particularly memorable way, like with the early Ian Watson novels. It is "not very good" in an unsatisfying way, in which even a hate-read will leave the reader unfulfilled.
Why Black Library has chosen this for an anniversary reprint is beyond this store's reasoning, but we have a copy that you could purchase. We believe that your money and time would be best spent on many of the other products we sell, but if you truly desire to purchase this book, we will not stop you.
